Stereoscape
October 2005Stereoscape was formed in early 2004. It is a collective featuring Taylor Burton, Benjamin Domanico, Brian Kasprzyk, and Samuel Ortiz. Stereoscape use both traditional and modern electronic instruments to create an improvised sonic experience that is reflective of the musical relationship between the musicians and the space.
Analog Stereoscape 1.5
This live, improvisational piano performance explored the boundaries between audience and performer, music and sound, and the possible spectrum of sounds created though alternative methods of “playing the piano”. For thirty minutes the performers slowly rotate around the piano. Explorations in sounds and performance are very Cagean in concept, but there is a level of conscious sonic experience that makes Analog Stereoscape 1.5 more about the aural aesthetic than redefinition of function of the piano in music.
More about the Analog Stereoscape Series
The Analog Stereoscape Series started in late 2003 with the first performance which involved acoustic and electronic instruments being improvised in a site specific installation that involved over 100 modified tape players. Since then, many live public performances have been arranged that address many of the issues in modern sound work such as location, documentation of experience, and the dynamic of music versus sound. Analog Stereoscape performances have happened in a variety of locations ranging from auditoriums and “black box” theatres to walk-in coolers, apartments, and in a river. Although the lineup of the Analog Stereoscape performances is ofted in flux, it usually involves the members of Stereoscape.
A two hour performance part of the Analog Stereoscape series that dealt with the mixing of traditional musical instruments such as upright bass, drums, and piano, with high-processed electronic instruments including tape, circuit-bent instruments, Theremin style effects processors, and digital samplers.
